Visas and entry for medical treatment in China
- There is no dedicated China medical visa category; treatment visitors use standard visas or the 240-hour visa-free transit where eligible.
- The 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit policy applied to 54 countries as of late 2024; the original National Immigration Administration notice still needs editor verification.
- Always confirm current rules with the Chinese embassy or visa center before booking care.

The short version
China does not currently offer a dedicated "medical visa" category. Foreign patients enter on:
- Regular visas (L tourist, S2 short-term family visit, or others depending on circumstances). Materials come from the Chinese embassy or visa service center in your country.
- 240-hour visa-free transit, if you are a national of an eligible country transiting through China to or from a third country. Whether a medical visit can be scheduled inside the transit window depends on entry port rules and provincial implementation; several provinces allow intra-provincial movement.

FAQ
Can I use the 240-hour transit for surgery? Recovery time must fit inside the window and transit conditions; complex surgery generally does not. We state the rule, not a recommendation.
