Will my US insurance or Medicare pay for care in China?

Usually not. Medicare generally does not cover care outside the US, and the U.S. Embassy says most Chinese hospitals do not accept US insurance, apart from some hospitals in the Blue Cross Blue Shield worldwide network. The State Department recommends travel health and medical evacuation insurance; check whether your plan pays the hospital directly or reimburses you later.
