Why are international departments and private hospitals so much more expensive than regular public care?
International departments operate outside public insurance pricing and are capped at around 10% of hospital capacity. Reporting from Caijing says they charge roughly three to ten times public-insurance rates; for example, a Beijing Children's Hospital international appointment is 1,000 to 1,500 yuan versus 50 to 100 yuan in the regular clinic. You typically get English service, shorter waits and insurance direct billing.
